Creating an account is simple! Click the "Sign Up" button on the homepage, enter your email address, create a password, and verify your email. Once verified, you can search any place, read resident snapshots, and share your own first-hand experience.
I forgot my password. How do I reset it?

Searching Places & Reports

How do I search for a place?
From the search page, enter any city, town, or zip code. You'll see the resident snapshot for that place — what residents say about daily life there, with the number of responses always shown. Searching and reading snapshots is free.
What's in a full community report?
A full community report breaks down resident sentiment across six dimensions of daily life — Money, Health, Schools, Neighborhood, Community, and Growth — with question-by-question detail, resident-submitted receipts, and trends over time. Full reports require a paid plan.
How do I share my own experience of a place?
Search for the place you live (or have lived), then choose to add your experience. You'll answer structured questions with predetermined responses about daily life there — no freeform rants — and you can attach receipts like photos to back up what you say. Contributing is free and anonymous.
Are my contributions anonymous?
Yes. Your responses are shown only as part of aggregated community results — never tied to your name or profile. We believe anonymity encourages honest, first-hand accounts of what living somewhere is really like.
Why does a place show "Early input" instead of results?
We don't summarize a place until enough residents have weighed in — a couple of responses is a quote, not a verdict. Until a place reaches the minimum sample size, it shows "Early input" with no scores. The number of resident responses is always shown.
Can I update my contribution later?
Yes. Life in a place changes, and so can your input — you can revisit and update your responses over time so the community picture stays current.

Privacy & Safety

Is my information kept private?
Yes. Your account information, email, saved searches, and reports are private to you. Your contributions appear only as anonymous, aggregated community results. We never share your personal data with third parties without your consent.
Who can see what I contribute?
Your individual answers are never shown — only aggregated community results for a place. There are no public profiles, and nothing you contribute is ever tied to your identity.
How do you keep contributions honest and safe?
Contributions come from verified accounts answering structured questions — not freeform reviews — and residents can back up what they say with receipts. We use account verification and pattern detection to protect against abuse, and sample sizes are always shown so a handful of outliers can't masquerade as consensus.

Technical Issues

The page won't load or is displaying incorrectly. What should I do?
Try these steps:
1. Hard refresh the page (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac)
2. Clear your browser cache and cookies
3. Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
4. Disable browser extensions temporarily

If the issue persists, contact support@knowyourarea.net with your browser type and version.
My dashboard or charts aren't showing data. Why?
This may be due to:
• Cached data - Try clearing your browser cache
• Not enough responses yet - A place's charts populate as more residents contribute
• Early input status - Places below the minimum sample size don't show scores yet
• Browser issue - Try refreshing or using a different browser
The print/PDF function isn't working. How do I save my report?
Click the "Print" button on your report page. If it doesn't work:
1. Ensure pop-ups are enabled in your browser
2. Try using your browser's print function (Ctrl+P or Cmd+P)
3. Save as PDF by selecting "Save as PDF" in the print dialog
